Red elm is also known as slippery elm because it has a slippery mucilaginous inner bark that is slighty fragrant and also edible. Used medicinally for a cough medicine and as a poultice.The heartwood of red elm flouresces a dim yellow green and the earlywood to latewood color transition gives this wood a red-brown and yellow color.
